You can buy all the peanut butter you want... all the veggie dogs, and all the spreadable fruit too. But it's nothing without bread. And in the bread department, Stop and Shop delivered all that is great about whole wheat bread. For a very affordable price, we had a place to spread our favorite spreads. Neel often liked peanut butter on his bread; Dan purchased spreadable fruit (often confused with jelly) by the basketload to spread upon the delightful whole wheat slices. Perhaps my most vivid memory of Stop and Shop is the wonderful scents that filled the air in the bread aisle. The cinnamon bread, the english muffins, the cakes and cookies at the end of the aisle. Sure, we indulged in such luxuries on occasion. But none of them could replace the staple grain on which our diets depended: Stop and Shop brand whole wheat bread.
