It was at this point in the evening, I believe, that we were forcefully asked
to leave the grocery store. The suggestion was made that three college
students taking pictures in a grocery store at 2am might be "spies"
for a rival grocery store, interested in capturing the secrets of grocery
store layout that SnS has clearly mastered.
Fortunately, a nearby SnS that we also often called home was willing to
assist us in our goal of capturing the memory, the wonder, the happiness that
is our favorite grocery store.
And what better product to start our new journey with? If there is
any product that got us through tough times, it was the cheese. Ah,
the Cabot cheddar cheese. The white, delicious, Cabot cheese that we
would literally buy pounds of each week. Disgusting? Perhaps. But a
dairy-riffic daily experience... definitely.
Neel liked his slices thin, Dan liked his slices thick. But any way you
sliced it, it was a wonder of creaminess. I have yet to see its equal in
cheddar cheese. On numerous occasions, I can remember late night phone calls
with the 24-hour Cabot hotline (really, this happened), describing our love
for the product and the comfort that we felt in having a reliable source of
protein that drowned away our sorrows while it nourished us.
Ah, Cabot. Where are you now? California cheddar is almost universally
orange... and what is orange cheese but a painful reminder of how good
we once had it? |
