Mahesh, of Tech House, donated two 4 meg, gold plated, toshiba SIMMS to make 32 megs of RAM total. Now Seti@Home doesn't eat into VM. I just hope the gold/copper connections don't die anytime soon.04/24/99 06:30 EDT:
I added the Linux Penguin holding a counter on the front page as well as a Guestbook ( sign - view ) and an Exotic Linux Server Discussion Board04/23/99 23:45 EDT:
The Nidec 28 blower ($10 Radio Shack) that I use as a CPU fan typically takes 12VDC at 180mAmps and circulates 9 cubic feet of air per minute (without resistence). Although by itself the blower makes less noise than a normal fan, the sound of all that air going through the heat-sink made it hard to sleep at night. It's now plugged into 5VDC, still pushes an above average amount of air through the heat-sink, but makes virtually no noise. Now I just have to find a hard drive muffler.04/23/99 10:15 EDT:
10,000 hits! And if you wanted to return at a later date to see anything new, we now have a hostname.04/22/99 23:30 EDT:
Unbeknownst to me, one of my friends posted this site to slashdot.com yesterday, and I found myself with a lot of hits when after returning from dinner a few hours ago. I had wanted to at least give it a hostname first -- tomorrow morning it should be hanging-server.dhs.org. This weekend, I was planning on using my video conferencing camera in macro mode to make an MPEG flythrough of the components with loud classical music in the background, similar to the Mars terrain flythrough made a few years ago.I've also heard the unfortunate news that mine is not the first hanging linux server. This hung on a wall with duct tape in a dorm room several years ago, though right now it's in a Mac IIfx case! I can still say that mine is probably the only one that actually dangles via three steel cables attached to the ceiling, and it has many other odd features that make it unique. Another friend at Brown suggests that next year I make the first submerged-in-a-fish-tank linux server.
