Where is Techhouse? Where is TH Headquarters?

Technology House is located in Harkness House on Patriot's Court. For a map, try this. There is a call-box at the middle entrance and a doorbell next to the west-end door (closest to ADPhi and farthest from Thayer St). The coordinators of the event will be in the Technology House Library (Room 101) for the whole day. The library phone number is 7-6760, or you can ask anyone in Techhouse to let you in.

Huh? What kind of puzzles are you talking about?

Well, we can't be too specific. Think of a word search or a crossword puzzle, but not as straightforward. Expect to see several layers in a puzzle instead of one simple answer. Often part of solving the puzzle will be figuring out what to do without instructions. It's fun, trust us.

What if we have more than four people?

We needed to set some sort of limit to be fair. If you can, try to break up into two smaller groups (for example, split a group of five into 2 and 3). Then if you'd like, you can come to Techhouse to find an extra person or two to join your group.

Why are you really holding this event?

Well, there are a few reasons. Some of us hope to make this an annual event if the interest is large enough. MIT holds a similar event every year and it's very popular there. Also, this is being held during the Recruiting Season (see Calendar for events). We hope that people who are interested in puzzles are also people who might be interested in Technology House as a place to live. We strongly encourage everyone who participates to come to the wrap up session to meet and chat.

Where do we participate?

If you already have a group, you can easily participate through our website. The puzzles will be available at noon exactly on Saturday through the main Puzzle page. Groups that are created at Techhouse are encouraged to choose a member of their group's room to use. Web-access will be useful, and perhaps necessary for some of the puzzles.

Can we get outside help?

We encourage people to seek outside help for puzzles, however we limit the team prize to the registered members only.

How long does Puzzle Day last?

Well, as long as it takes to complete all the puzzles and the final metapuzzle. We'll be available the entire duration of the contest. If it seems that certain puzzles prove unduly difficult, hints will be released simultaneously on the web and to registered e-mail addresses.

How do we know when we're done?

The absolutely final objective is to retrieve a certain object in the area and bring it back to Techhouse HQ (Library). It will be clear when you have completed the puzzles.

Do we have to have all the answers to "officially" win?

No. It's perfectly legitimate to "backsolve" a puzzle by working from the metapuzzle. It may be very difficult to do this, but it's fine to do so.
