Nefarious Answers
As you walk past Faunce Arch, you hear a group of people arguing.
As you turn towards them, they glance at each other pointedly. They start talking
to you very quickly and you hurry to write everything down.
To solve this puzzle, you must know that each person follows certain rules. One always
speaks the truth, one always lies, one alternates truth and falsehood (the first
can be a truth or a lie), and one mimics the truth value of the previous statement
(if the previous person tells a lie, the mimicker also tells a lie). If the mimicker
begins the conversation, the mimicker can lie or tell the truth. After
you figure out who is who, only follow truthful directions.
Errata: Assume that you only have the first seven statements (through
Amanda's first comment) to use for the logic puzzle. Only after you have solved who
is who, are you given the rest of the dialogue.
Sergio - Careful, Jasper lies at least sometimes.
Jasper - But if I do, then Kate does as well.
Kate - (shrug) You see, I am the mimicker.
Jasper - Call Techhouse HQ at 7-6760 to tell them how it's going.
Kate - Actually, I lie all the time, or alternate between truth and lies.
Jasper - Well, I do know that Sergio is not a mimicker.
Amanda - If you remove this line, this puzzle would not have a unique solution.
Kate - Take your eight answers and line them up in reverse alphabetical order in

Sergio - Now sort your eight answers in reverse alphabetical order in a list.
Kate - Swap the 1st and 7th words in your list. Swap the 2nd and 7th words in your
list.
Amanda - Swap the 3rd and 7th words in your list. Swap the 4th and 5th words in your
list.
Jasper - Swap the 5th and 7th words in your list. Swap the 6th and 8th words in your
list.
Sergio - Swap the 2nd and 8th words in your list. Swap the 3rd and 7th words in your
list.
Jasper - Write your answers from left to right in this order, each word written vertically
from top to bottom.
Kate - Now write your answers from right to left in this order, each word written
vertically from top to bottom.
