Costuming

One of the first questions I get asked about Station 9 is how costuming will be done. After all, all of the characters are either anthropomorphic animals or robots. Obviously, dressing up in animal costumes is uncomfortable, expensive, and usually just looks ridiculous. What I will probably do is get a bunch of those head bands with animal ears on them and require that people wear them to identify what race they are. Extra costuming - make-up, prosthetics, etc - that is especially good will probably be rewarded with extra EXP. Otherwise, we will just have to all except that we don't look very much like our characters.

Other than the species problem, the LARP is essentionally cyberpunk to a campy extreme.

Costuming Suggestions for Specific Species

Cats (Aldeberan) - There are a lot of cat costume kits out there that provide you with ears, maybe a nose mask, and a tail. If you do not feel like wearing a face mask many sites listed below offer whiskers for $1.25. However, almost all of the cat ears I've found are black, white, or (very occasionally) brown or striped. If you want to play a cat of a color not found on the net, buy white ears, go down to Shades on Thayer Street, buy some hair color spray, and spray the ears.

Ducks (Four-Armed) - Uhm...right. There are beak masks, but they are lame. Very, very lame. But you can wear them if you want,. And if you want to sew an extra two arms on an old sweatshirt and stuff them with rags or whatever, that's cool, get some EXP.

Horned Lizards - I would really, really prefer if you woud buy some cheap prosthetic horns (they're fairly easy to get). If you feel like painting yourself colors, you get EXP.

Raccoons - Fairly easy. There are some brown ears available on the web. Get a black face mask at Shades (99 cents) and cut it into a  pattern that more greatly resembles the racoon face action, and it's raccoon city.

Rabbits - It's fairly easy to get bunny ears on-line, but they're pretty much all white or pink. If you are playing a rabbit of another color, you may wish to buy white ones and spray them another color.

Squirrels - Sadly, I have found utterly no squirrel costuming. Yet there are many people playing squirrels. I recommend buying white cat ears, spraying them grey, and wearing some whiskers. Ethan has made the suggestion of taking some black makeup and putting it around it around your nostils. And I have no idea how to do tails, so unless you feel like strapping a pillow to your back and and sewing two feather boas to the pillow, just forget the tail.

Sleazasaurs - There's a alligator mask on the Fun and Folly site, but that's my only real suggestion. Painting yourself gets you some EXP.

Toads - Huh. There is a toad mask or two around on the web, though I want you they look sort of cheesy and can be breath-stifling. I'm not really requiring anything for toads. Painting yourself green gets EXP, though.

Animal Costuming on the Web Guide

All of these sites have fairly cheap costuming, mainly animal ears and masks that are under $10. But shipping is often 4 to 8 dollars, so you may want to team up with someone or some people and share the shipping.

This is the only site with gray ears, under the Capes section for some reason.

I'm a little suspicious about this site, because she doesn't have pictures other than of herself, and she looks a little over-enthusiastic about clowns. But this site contains the only lion costume kit I can find.
